Check In | With Keisha&co

21st December 2017 | By Jessica Taylor

It's no secret that we love supporting up and coming talent (it's in our DNA!) and when searching for the perfect VIP gift to share with our Mavens we got wind of BJ Campbell, founder and creator of new Aussie skincare brand Keisha&Co. A talented beauty formulator, BJ uses homegrown natural ingredients to create a skincare line as hard-working, authentic and lovely - just like her.

BJ Campbell, are you able to please introduce yourself to our Australian members? What is your background, credentials and how did you come to found Keisha&co.?

Hi everyone! I am a 27-year-old girl who lives on the border of NSW and VIC, who loves the outdoors, my dogs, and coffee!

I founded Keisha&co. in April 2017 after a long battle with eczema, hormonal acne and just generally bad skin. I had been slowly changing my routine to more natural products when a friend introduced me to essential oils and carrier oils. I started researching the benefits as well as started to mix and match a few different oils and clays until I found the perfect fit. I couldn’t believe that using such natural products would make my skin look so amazing!
I started sharing my products with friends and family, and when they loved them too, I wanted to share them with the world!

As a formulator, can you share why you chose to use Australian Clay in the Purifying Clay Mask and the benefits it is known to have?

I am a big fan of keeping things Australian when it comes to purchases and that rule just naturally carried over into my business! I researched many different kinds of clay, their mineral content, and their benefits. I trialled them all myself, too – which I do with all of my products first and foremost.

Australian Pink Clay is great for reducing irritation and inflammation, which is perfect for both sensitive, dry skin and acne prone skin. White Kaolin Clay is a great option for all skin types and works to gently draw out dirt and toxins, absorb excess oil, and minimize pores. A mixture of both means the Purifying Clay Mask is great for all skin types!

What are some of your favourite natural ingredients to use and why?

Obviously, pink clay is one of my favourites for the reasons just mentioned, but I also absolutely love jojoba and rosehip oils! Both are gentle, nourishing, and work hard to moisturize dry skin and reduce inflammation. You also don’t have to use much for them to work well – which makes a little go a long way.

What are your favourite liquids to mix with the Purifying Mask?

You can mix the Purifying Clay Mask with a splash of water for a great clay mask for all skin types, but you can also add in a few drops of Keisha&co. Skin Saviour to the mix for a more luxurious, spa-like mask that will also help nourish and calm dry skin.

What does your morning and night skincare ritual look like?

My morning skincare is pretty simple – I wash my face with water (I have quite dry skin so I don’t need to do a deep cleanse twice a day!) and use a couple of drops of Skin Savior before I put on my makeup for the day.

At nighttime, I use the Clay Cleansing Balm to melt the day away, then I lather myself in Skin Saviour Oil and Nourishing Lip Balm before I get into bed, so I wake up feeling moisturised and glowing! I use the Purifying Clay Mask once a week (while having a nice relaxing soak and a wine) mixed with water and Skin Saviour oil.

What does the future look like for Keisha&co? Where do you see the brand going?

We have so much in store for 2018, I don’t know where to start! Of course, some things we are keeping hush hush, but I can tell you it includes new products, new stockists, and a couple of extra exciting affiliations. We will be expanding big time within the next year, so watch this space!
